The Violet-green Swallow is a member of the family Hirudinidae, which is in the Order Passeriformes.  They breed in the west from Alaska to Mexico as far east as Texas and Montana.  It is a cavity nester that may uses trees, cracks in cliffs or human structures.  They are backed with iridescent green and violet, with the female not as brightly colored.
