The Northwestern Crow (Corvus brachyrhynchos caurinus) has recently been demoted from full species to a subspecies of the American Crow. It ranges coastally from Washington state into Alaska. In 1989 a major oil spill occurred in Prince Willam Sound, where the Exxon Valdez ran aground. 10 years later I found a population of mutant crows with unusual beaks, with some shown here.
