The Ravens are large members of the Crow family (Corvidae. I have 2 species here. The Chihuahuan Raven (Corvus cryptoleucus) has a range limited to the Southwestern US and Mexico. It was also called the White-necked Raven and a breeze exposes the otherwise hidden white here. The Northern Raven (Corvus corax) is the most widespread member of the family, and perhaps the smartest bird. If a piece of meat is suspended by a long string, it thinks about the problem and steps on the string repeatedly, while pulling it up with its beak. Most other birds pull, let go and it drops and they never get it.
