Anna’s Hummingbird (Calypte anna) was named after Anna Massena, Duchess of Rivoli, in France. It is the only North American Hummingbird with a red crown.  Females can have an iridescent red gorget, like the males but it is usually smaller and less brilliant.  They range along the West Coast of North America from Canada to Mexico, and inland to west Texas.  They are the most northerly of hummingbirds.
