The Common Murre (Uria aalge) is in the family Alcidae, within the great Order Charadriiformes.  has a circumpolar distribution in the North Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, nesting in large colonies.  It spends most of its time far out at sea, coming to breed on rocky cliffs and islands.
