The House Wren is a member of the family Troglodytidae, in the Order Passeriformes.  Its ranges is from Canada to tip of South America and is thus the mostly widely distributed bird in the New World.  Its variations in different parts of its range have resulted in taxonomic difficulties deciding whether populations are subspecies or different species.  Its tolerance for humans may partially account for how widely it occurs.
