The Barred Owl (Strix varia) lived mainly in the Eastern United States, but has expanded its range to the West Coast, where they are considered invasive and displacing endangered Spotted Owls.  Brown eyes are distinctive as other Eastern owls have yellow eyes. Photos in this gallery show many adults, some young and feeding prey to fledglings.  Many videos of interesting behavior are added further down.
