Canvasback (Aythya valisineria) is the largest diving duck in North America, where prairie potholes are its habitat.  For the winter, they migrate south along the Mississippi and Pacific flyways to southern states and Mexico.  The name valisneria refers to the scientific name of wild celery thought to be its favorite food, but it also relishes sago pondweed tubers which it digs out.
