The Common Merganser, Mergus merganser is a diving sea duck whose habitat is forested rivers and lakes North America and Eurasia.  They have serrated jaws that help grip their prey which consists mainly of fish, and crustaceans.  They nest in tree cavities and for many, their range moves south in the winter. Illegal persecution by competing fisherman is a problem in some areas.
