Gnatcatchers are small birds in the family Polioptilidae, and are relatives of Wrens. The California Gnatcatcher was split from the Black-tailed Gnatcatcher and ranges from southern California to Baja.  The Black-tailed Gnatcatcher lives in the Sonoran and Chihuahan deserts of the southwestern United States and Mexico.
