The Harlequin duck (Histrionicus histrionicus) is a diving sea duck nesting and living near cold, fast moving streams along the northern Pacific and Atlantic coasts of North America, and eastern Russia.  In eastern North America the they are declining and considered threatened by oil spills and hydroelectric projects.  Today it is the only species in the genus but there are 2 other fossil representatives.
