The Northern Mockingbird, Mimus polyglottos is a member of the family Mimidae in the Order Passeriformes, famed for its ability to mimic the songs of other birds, animals and mechanical sounds. It may have 43 to 203 song types, varying by region, but this is far less than the Brown Thrasher. It is also noted for its intelligence, about to recognize individual humans especially any posed as threatening. Five states use it as their state bird and it is much featured in songs and literature.
