The Razorbill ((Alca torda) is a member of the family Alcidae, in the Order Charadriiformes. It is the closest living relative of the extinct Great Auk, which was wiped out by the Europeans when they began to explore the world further. They live in the subarctic Atlantic Ocean, nesting along coastal cliffs. The female only lays one egg per year and they are the rarest of remaining Alcids. The 1918 Migratory Bird Treaty Act protected them well till recently, when it was weakened, and the major threat today is destruction of breeding sites.
