The Red-breasted merganser (Mergus serrator) is a diving duck with a serrated bill suitable for holding on to the fish it catches.  Their breeding range is freshwater habitat in most of the northern hemisphere around the world, roughly above the latitude of Canada, and migrating further south in winter to where there is open water to catch fish.  It is the fastest duck on record at 100mph pursued by a plane.
