The Ring-necked duck (Aythya collaris) is a North American diving duck of boreal, wooded freshwater ponds and lakes that migrates to southern North America in winter. They are omnivorous, feeding on snails, worms, insects and submerged plants.  It seems that Ring-billed Duck would have been a more apt name.
