The Rose-breasted Grosbeak, Pheucticus ludovicianus is a member of the family Cardinalidae that breeds in open deciduous woods in most of eastern North America and winters in South America.  The male has the rosy throat and is otherwise black and white, while the female has  patterns on brown.  Captive birds have lived to 24 years while 12 years is maximum recorded for a wild one.
