Family Anhingidae (ANHINGA)

There are only 4 living species in this family, the members of which are known as darters, snakebirds, or water-turkeys. They will swim with just the head and neck above water, and they impale their prey on their sharp beak.  Here I have the American Anhinga, with males and females, preening, with prey, nesting with chicks.  Click to open the gallery and review.
