Thraupidae is the family consisting of Neotropical Tanagers and is the second largest family of birds, with 383 species in 15 subfamilies. Many birds with tanager in their common name have been shown with modern molecular studies to be more closely related to cardinals and buntings, and moved to Cardinalidae.
