Order Trichoptera (Caddisflies)

Trichoptera, the Order of insects known as Caddisflies, has aquatic larvae and terrestrial, winged adults. About 14,500 species in 45 families are mainly in 2 suborders. Integripalpia make cases and move about, while Annulipalpia make a fixed retreat, waiting for food to come to them. Phylogenetically, they are closer to Lepidoptera than other families. Fossils have been recognized from the middle Triassic 230 million years ago.
