Danaine is a subfamily of Nymphalidae , the Brush-footed Butterflies. Until recently it was a family itself, Danaidae, but got demoted after updated taxonomic techniques showed that it was not as distinct from this group, which is characterized by a 4-legged appearance – as one pair is held against the body. The Monarch is the most well-known member, and the Glass-winged Butterflies, which were a subfamily has become a tribe within Danainae, Ithomiini.
